Spring Faves: Market Obsessions

Updated: Apr 19, 2023

Ahhhhh! My obsessions from market ... If I could buy my most-coveted items from our recent trip to the furniture market, here’s what I would snatch up:

New rugs made in the Nordic manner–flatweaves heavier than dhurries that lie flat on the floor in gorgeous colors and patterns … a new weaving process that mimics the original hand-made (can't buy them now, except at auctions)

The Palacek woven ceiling lights and a set of the dining chairs I've always loved. Now available as bar stools. Outdoor furniture in the new polypropylene frames and performance fabrics.

Everything from the BOBO showroom ... we might have to order the handmade muslin set of three horses and maybe can't live without the colored glass vases in muted somber golds, greens, and greys. And then there was the art work done on recycled steel panels reminiscent of the posters of the 60s and 70s, the beautiful Portuguese linens, with embroidered sheets and linen throws (so understated and elegant) ...

The striking set of face vases from Currey & Company

Brutalist sculpture and other accessories from Global Views

Beaded branches on ceramic vases from Global Views (wait, we did order those!)

Sleek matte-finished colored salad bowls (we ordered these for GCD Provisions–so elegant and simple)

Wall plant hangers, useful and handmade–from a new line we are carrying

Everything new from Arteriors–so right on trend, so usable, so easy to place, so expensive! Stool envy here ... what a statement piece.

New textured rugs from one of our favorite vendors, but I'm loving the framed antique one-of-a-kind rugs for walls even better

A bar cart on wheels that holds everything and expands for parties

This knock-out hand-finished ping pong dining table is pretty cool (Gotta have? "Ping" me!)

Other I heart items ...

  • White. Always works, never tiring

  • Nordic sheep hide-lined suede coats, hats, and ottomans and sandals (could it be because it was 32 degrees outside?)

  • Anything not lit by LED bulbs, even the 3000 K. Okay, of course, I appreciate the energy efficiencies of LED, but as a designer, boy I sure do miss those softer, relaxed incandescent glows!

  • Earphones

  • Luggage that is super light but holds everything I need–haha

  • New huge throws/blankets in strong colors similar to Hermes from the Andes mountains. In alpaca and wool–will last forever, handwoven and priced right

  • That ping pong dining table was pretty cool

Well, that's our GCD take-away dream list. If anything catches your attention, let us know, and we can source it!

Shoot us a line at gwen@gwencallan.com if any of these fall into your own must-have list, and we will make it happen!
