WOW Factor Room - LUXE Award Winner

THE PROJECT: Napa Party Barn

Surrounded by vineyards, the client’s Napa Valley home, purchased from Doors star Ray Manzarek’s estate, was an industrialist-styled remodel of an original farmhouse, the silo and exterior reminiscent of the earlier design. For adding a practical indoor/outdoor space, the client hired our team at Gwen Callan Design to refine the design and specify lighting, finishes, tile, fixtures, and cabinetry. Inspired by the color of the Bonelli windows, a vibrant palette of gray, blues, and warm woods was chosen to complement the industrial, hard edges of the translucent ceiling panels and trim. Because of the simple rectangular building shape and large 12' sliding window opening, the space was named the "Party Barn,” providing space for entertaining, away from the confines of the existing residence. To preserve the black steel beams that became visible during construction of the 16’ ceiling, the designer added black suspension beams and lighting, then complemented the strength and lightness of the ceiling with poured stained concrete floors. To define functional spaces, Gwen designed large armoires in walnut with steel trim, separating a generous sitting area with a large television and cozy wood stove and a spacious working kitchen featuring a salvage yard kitchen island and long farm table.
